Thank the people (and give them what they want)

The unexpected positive response to Toe II Toe meant a lot to me, and it was a much needed little win. So as a thank you to the people who played and donated to the game, I tried to make as many changes as I could based on people's feedback on itch, newgrounds, twitter, reddit, and in person.

 Lifebar

A bunch of people got confused with the lifebar, unable to distinguish if it was going up or down.  Also, people got thrown off by the user name on the lifebar for scoring. I transferred the user names at the bottom and instead put the character name at lifebar. Say hello to Stella.

So far, feedback is that this is much better and no longer confusing. Included in the lifebar changes are two new mechanics--guard break and third strike life recover.

GUARD BREAK

Guard break is the additional meter found at the bottom of the lifebar. Blocking hits will cause this meter to go down, and eventually break your guard. This was upon the suggestion of people who didn't like how turtling can be abused in the game.

LIFE RECOVER/THIRD STRIKE

When you get hit clean, damage is not permanent until you get hit by the third strike. You'll notice the recoverable life, a darker meter in the lifebar. You can try to block and dodge in order to recover as much life as you can.

 Controls

KEYBOARD

The keyboard can now be customized according to your liking. Some special keys are reserved and aren't assignable (ex: FN keys)

GAMEPAD

The gamepad support is also now complete. You can use them to navigate the menus. Similar to the keyboard, you can customize your controls now too. If your gamepad has vibration support, be prepared for a rumble!

TOUCH

For mobile, a widened button configuration is now available when playing single player.

 Time Options

You can now change the round time duration. By default, it still is 20 seconds, as a reference to the 20 second game jam this game was made for, but now you can choose between 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 99, or infinite.

 Versus and Post Fight Portraits

 Pause/Unpause

You can now pause in-game by pressing the pause button on the lifebar. If you're on keyboard, escape will do the trick, while start/options button will do it for gamepads.

 Sound FX/Music

Added some more sound effects, digitized voices as well as music. I'm not a music person, but I'm pretty happy with the music I came up with. Thanks to Modbox/Beepbox.

 Graphics Improvements

Added coaches and a crowd for the background. Also added hitsparks.

UI

Better UI, easily to navigate using a mouse, keyboard, touch, or gamepad. Also added some animation transitions.

 Computer vs Computer

Added a computer vs computer mode. This, however, needs to be improved on. The AI at the moment is very basic and was meant to be "easy" for humans. Will improve on this so that AI vs AI can be more competitive and exciting. For now, don't bet on cpu vs cpu!

 What's Next?

There's still a lot more to be done. Apart from life getting in the way, another reason why the updates took a bit of time was because I rewrote the whole thing. The game was originally made for a game jam, and so it was extremely messy, difficult to update. A lot of the changes I did are in preparation for future updates. If time has any mercy, I'll be adding a few characters as well as the arcade/career/story mode.

Thank you all for the support, hopefully you stick around for the future updates!
